Maui and the fish

On literacy we have been learning about the character Maui. We have looked at the similarities and differences of Maui in different stories. I made an animation about the story the fish of Maui I found make New Zealand challenging. I found make the people easy.

Tyres

In maths we have been learning about making maths questions from a picture. First we look at the picture. Then we asked questions that we wanted to find out. I found really hard. I found good easy.

Understanding Song Lyrics

In literacy we have been learning about understanding the meaning of songs lyrics.
We listened to two songs, they were Treasure by Bruno Mars and Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson.
We discussed and brainstormed the song little meanings. We then looked at the lyrics and what they meant. Treasure By Bruno Mars is about a girl being special. Man in the mirror By Michael Jackson is about a man in a mirror.

Letter Art

On Wednesday we did some letter art. Letter Art is when you take the first letter of a word and make it fancy like they did in old books. I wrote an "A" on mine. I colored it in with coloring pencils.

List It Writing

In writing we are leaning to create ideas. First I brainstormed and wrote down my ideas.

Super sentences

We are leaning to write super sentences by adding wow words to boring sentences

The penguin walked across the ice.

The small adult penguin walked happily across the smooth ice.

Calendar Art

For calendar art this week we have learnt to blend colours with paint. I really enjoyed painting but i found it difficult to get crisp lines. First we sketch on outline then we stared at the top and worked down.

Maroi Weather

For inquiry we are leaning about Maroi weather. We learnt how to say how is the weather in Maroi and that is Kei te peha te ahau o te rangi. I have 8 slides of Maroi weather to saylike fine is Kei te paki.

Courtney’s Birthday

On Saturday it was Courtney’s 18th birthday. She turned 18. Mum, Dad, Britney and me are here for her birthday. Courtney’s friends are also here. We got her presents. Mum make her birthday cake with candles.

The presents that Courtney got are earrings, a big tv, the greatest snowman and a box of chocolate. I got her the greatest snowman DVD.   

Courtney had a vanilla cake that was a circle.  On the outside it is blue and white with brown chocolate on top and sides.

Questioning

In reading we are learning to be good readers. To be a good reader you ask questioning before, during and after you read something. We are learning to ask different types of questions. They are right there question, think and search, author and me. This week we looked at a photo. We got into group and read down questions. Then we came up with the questions What are they running from? After that we came made a google drawing of a survival kit.

 

Angus monster

In literacy I have been writing a description of my monster. We draw our own monster after we read a book about a monster. Then we had to write a description.

Drink flavours

For home room maths we have been learning to make bar graph. We started with a tally chart of drink flavours. We used the information to make our bar graph. The most flavour drink is ice - cream soda. The leasr favourite drinks are orange juice and lemonade.

Pizza maths

With Mrs S we did Fractions. We made a pizza base and put our toppings on it. We then had to work out what fraction of each topping we had.

Multiplication

I have been learning to skip count to solve multiplication problems. I have been using my 2's, 5's and 10's.

Four Seasons

For art we have been colouring a tree and around the tree we have coloured the colour's of the seasons. We have also etched with a toothpick on the colours to make it look more like the season.

The spider who wanted spots

My group read a story about the spider who wanted spots. We compared the text to books we already read. We made a table with things from the story in one column and something we remembered from another story.

A Recipe For Winter

In literacy we have been do are a recipe for winter. First we brain stormed winter words. Then we looked at similes. Next we made up the recipe.

In literacy we have been writing about our holiday.

Winter poem

In literacy I did a winter brainstorm. First I had to do brainstorm to get ideas. Next I wrote down my ideas. Then I used both simple and complex sentences. I found it challenging to do the brainstorm. My favourite part is needing marshmallows.

Hangi

On belonging day we had a hangi. The hangi is cooked in a pit. Matua Willie made a fire in the pit to make the irons hot. The Kapa haka girls got the food ready. The food went in at 10 am and came out cooked at about 1 pm. I tried the food and thought it was hot. I enjoyed belonging day.

Dragon

In literacy I have been learning about celebration and Chinese new year. I found out information about why people celebrate the Chinese new year. I had to watch videos and read notes. My favourite thing of Chinese new year is the zodiac animals.  I found it challenging to make a google drawing dragon.

hippos

In literacy I leading about hippos. I did facts about hippos. Then I did a hippo acrostic poem. I found it hard to make a google drawing of the hippos head.

prediction

In reading I have been learning how to predict. I use my prior knowledge and clues from the picture or text to predict. I had to use my prior knowledge about being alone in the forest and clues from the picture to predict what would happen next.

Gardens

In reading I have been reading about gardens. First I read Isobel's Garden. Next I used google drawing to draw my garden. Then I researched about gardens. I make a google doc about gardens. I found it challenging to find facts about gardening. I found it interesting like doing my picture.

Measuremnt

In maths we are learning about measurement. Today we leaint about metres. Fint we work items in the class that we thought. Were about a metre. Next I measured then with a rulen. I then had to work out the difference between  my guess and the actuat measurement. - hard

 

The Enormous Gynormous hole

In reading we have been learning about visualisation. We read the book the Enormous Gynormous Hole. I found it easy to do the meteor. I found it hard to use google drawings.

The Visiting Giant

During literacy we read the poem The Visiting giant. We are learning to visualise what we read. We had to draw a picture our mind. I drew the giant stepping in the bath.

All About Me

We are to measure our body parts. We use wrist bands to measure our body parts. We also use measuring tapes to measure our body parts.

super squid

This week we have been reading  a big book called Super Squid. We did drew picture of the super squid. We had to use  our visualisation skills to do this.  This is my drawing of the  Super Squid holding on to the Sub DD  in the  midnight zone.

The Best Part of Me

This week in writing we have been learning to use adjectives {wow words}. We read the story "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald. Next we brainstormed ideas about our best body part. This is my writing. What is your best body part and why? 

ANZAC biscuit

In literacy we have been learning about ANZAC. Today we made ANZAC biscuit. In 1921 the recipe first in a cook book. Mum, Wives and children made the biscuits. Some were sent to soldiers and most of them were sold at fetes to raise money for the war. They raised 6.5 million pounds for the New Zealand war effort.  These biscuits made of sugar, flour, rolled oats, so they do not go off.

Chameleon

In literacy I do a writing of the chameleon. First we watch the video of the chameleon's tongue.

Building a Sandcastle

I went to Spencer Park last week with Punui - o - toka and Whakarua. We went to have fun

In the photo i was building a sandcastle with Zane, Ethan, Kaidyn and Kane. We built a 3 D shape which was a castle. We use teamwork to make pyramids and joint them together with cylinders.

Flame Thrower Writing

In writing we have been learning about using wow words. We watched a slow motion video about a flame thrower. Then we brainstormed wow words and similes to describe the flame.

Instant Chocolate Pudding

In writing we use blindfolds so we had to use our other senses. We called out adjectives. I found it hard to know what it was and what i found easy was to eat it.
